Peer run programs are independent programs controlled by people with behavioral health issues. Programs offer a safe place for people seeking or in recovery to support each other while working to achieve the life they want. Peer support is based on the belief that people who have overcome hardships can offer useful help to others who are facing like issues. Services are not clinical. Peer support is shared support. Each person gives and gets support. Participation in peer services must be voluntary. Services vary by program. Services may include self-help groups, wellness education, recovery supports, community-building and advocacy.
Services are free and open to the pubic.
